Aethernal2 is an old-school Metin2 server, and it is still in development. Here is the idea behind it, what already works, what we are still building and how you can join as a tester.
The idea
The Metin2 many of us grew up with, kept simple and fair:
Max level 99: the old level cap, and every level is earned.
Classic PvM: Metin stones, bosses and dungeons the way they used to be.
No alchemy: no dragon soul system and no modern power creep. Your gear and your skill decide.
Guild competition: classic guild wars, plus ranked guild wars with matchmaking, a ladder and 30-day seasons.
Rates: 1000 % EXP, drop and yang. EXP is still being balanced: the rough goal is about 2 hours to level 75 and about 14 hours to level 99.
What already works
In the game
8 languages: English, Italiano, Français, Deutsch, Español, Português, Ελληνικά, Română, with a small language flag next to every player's name
Dynamic weather: rain and snow showers per map, and real day and night
No mob collision: you walk through ordinary monsters, while bosses and Metin stones stay solid
Fast Equip (F7): save equipment sets and switch with one click
Offline shops in the village plazas, and Shop search to find items in all of them
Seon-Pyeong, the upgrade and crafting NPC
the Teleport window, the Portable Biologist and the OX event
a Graphics Options window with an FPS limit (up to unlimited)

a Windows installer and a launcher that keeps the game up to date
a wiki with every item, monster, drop and map

There is no opening date yet.
How to become a tester
Registration is by invitation only for now. To ask for an invitation, write to contact@aethernal2.eu from the e-mail address you want to play with, and tell us:
your language (for the game and the forum)
your Metin2 experience: how long you have played, on which servers, with which classes
when you can usually play (days, times and your time zone)
We send invitations in small groups. When yours arrives:
Open the link in the invitation e-mail and create your account on aethernal2.eu with the same e-mail address.
Download the Windows installer from aethernal2.eu/download, install it and start Aethernal2 from the desktop shortcut. The first start downloads the game files (about 3.4 GB).
Log in with your new account, in the game and here on the forum.
What we ask from testers
Play the way you normally would, and try the new systems.
Report bugs in Bug reports: what happened, where (map and channel), how to repeat it, and a screenshot if you can.
Share ideas in Suggestions.
Characters, items and progress from the test phase may be reset before the official opening.
Follow the news
News is posted in the forum's News category, and it also appears on the aethernal2.eu home page and in the game launcher.
